Grandpa

I LOVE PASTA!

Story by Grandma

This is a story that my Mom told my son tonight at dinner. My mother is trying to get Elijah to eat different kinds of food. So here is the story that she tells my son.

There once was a boy named ... lets call him EJ and he did not like to eat. His mom said to him "will you eat rice" and EJ said "No I do not like rice"

(the story went on like this with lots of different foods, until EJ started to shrink.)

Then EJ decided he would not eat pasta (one of my sons staples).

MyMom: What do you think happened to EJ?
Elijah: He died
MM: That is right!
Me : (braking in as fast as I can) NO it is not what happened !! They took EJ to the hospital and put a tube in his arm until he would eat and it hurt a lot!
MyDad: And they let him watch TV all day long.
Me: (again as fast as I can) NO they do not!!!!

Moral of this story " do not let Grandma tell stories"

Good day

Grandma and Grandpa came yesterday and we are having a great time. I will get some photo's up soon.

We got a GREAT book from the library the other day :

Raising Sweetness by Diane Stanley

I went right on line... well my Dad did, thank you Dad, and ordered the book and another one without even reading it. Because we need another 2 book;)

Lots of cool crafts

Sorry that I have been away for a couple of days. We have been busy. Well to be truthful we had been busy, but in the last couple of days I have not felt like blogging. This is the first time that this has happened since I started blogging and I think that it is a little weird. But if I am truthful with you (and I hope to always truthful) it is because in the last couple of days I have found that the postpartum depression is sneaking back in. I am fine, but just a little down in the dumps. I have been wanting to write a big long blog about postpartum depression, but have not found a way to do it yet. I will write more about it later. Now on the the fun/ busy stuff we have been up to.

We went to our friends house to spend the night (we left the house on Friday first thing and got back about 9pm on Saturday). It was GREAT!!! We had so much fun and we did lots of fun crafty things.

Here is the book we used for a couple of them. The book is GREAT and has lots of cheap, fun, things to do. We have this one and a second one by the same people. I highly recommend this book to parents that want to do crafts/experiments with their kids. Big thanks you to Maria how gave us this wonderful book.

The first thing that we did was make funny putty. (just like silly putty)

All you need is:

1 Tbs. liquid starch
food coloring
2 Tbs. white glue (we used both washable and non-washable and the non worked better, but they will both work)
Ziploc bag or plastic Easter eggs (ours had holes in them so we did not use them.)

You can add glitter if you want, but be for warned that when you use the funny putty the glitter will come off on your hands.

You will also need 2 small bowls for each kid that you are making it with. (Metal bowls clean easier)

Mix the glue and the food coloring in one bowl and add the starch to the other bowl. Slowly pour glue into the starch.

Let sit for a couple of minutes. (for the next part if you have small kids you might want to do this yourself)

Mix the starch and the glue together. A ball will start to form (if the stuff is to liquidity then add more starch and if to stiff add more glue). This part might be hard to get the stuff just right, but just stick with it. We ending up putting a lot more starch in to make it work, but stick with it because it will work!

Way cool!! Fun to play with. (note if it sticks to the kids hands to much when they are playing with it, add more starch)

Then next thing we did was an Instant Volcano. This was from the same book.

You will need:

2 small paper cups
1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup vinegar
food coloring (they say red, but we did it a couple of times and I think it is just as cool with blue or any other color your kid LOVES)

Put baking soda in cup.
Cut hole in top of the other cup about the size of a dime.

Add vinegar to top of cup slowly. (note here, if you do this more then one time and the baking soda sticks to the walls of the measuring cup when you add the vinegar the reaction will happen in your cup, and on your floors, thank God we where at a friends house;)

Watch kids love it!

The last craft was not from the wonderful book, but just tye-dye fun.

Get shirts ready, how ever you like they will be wonderful as long as you have fun doing it!
But do make sure that you put something on the table to soak up the mess it may make.

Mix dye with water (read the instructions, as I do not remember how we did this;)

Put colors on as you want them. (Can you tell that I am making this up?)

Let sit for a couple of hours (we let them sit for a day in plastic bag because I forgot them...opps).

I washed mine with some salt in the water to help set the colors.

Now on to just some cute photos from the weekend:

Monster number one. (singing fee fi fo fum)

Monster number 2.

What else can I say about this?

When he put this on he said, "this is just like my daddy's"

Goldfish eating.

King Ada (that is what the kids where calling her).

Fun was had by all!!!!

This last photo is from today. Ada is trying to pull herself up and she is not far from it.

Oh I almost forgot I got some REALLY cool fabric to make some tote bags with. I can not wait to start making them.

What a day.

My mother-in-law left today and in her wake I was left with: (note that not all of these things are because of her.. really only the good stuff;)

  • a house full of folded laundry (thank you Nancy)
  • a clean kitchen (thank you again!!!)
  • a baby that thinks that nursing is more fun when you pull on it(this is not fun to mom)
  • a baby that thinks electric cords are fun to play with (not a good idea)
  • a 4 year old that is being a real pill (here are a couple of the conservations that I have had with him today)
m: Elijah please do not do that I do not like it (as nicely as I can say it, after saying it 16 times in a minute and 1/2)
e: Yes you do Mom (big smile)
m: No I do not (less nicely now)
e: Yes you do (just as big smile)
m: (do not get angry, do not get angry, do not get angry) No I do not (breath, breath)

This goes on for a couple of more times before I decide that I should be the adult here and stop this. And then there is this one:

e: I am done with quiet time! (in a not so friendly voice)
m: No you are not.
e: Yes I am! (pushing me now and a little louder)
m: No you are not and your sister is still sleeping, so please keep your voice down.
e: I am DONE quiet time! (louder still on the stairs below his sisters room)
m: (calmly, calmly) If you wake your sister up you are going to loss your movie, your fruit snacks, and your night time stories.
e: NO I WILL NOT!!! (at the top of his lungs!)
Ada: (CRYING)
m: Now you have lost everything. Back to your room.
e: (screaming and crying)
m: (well this day is going well)

Well the good news is that they are both in bed, and I am off to watch the results of America Idol.

Here is the Dress

OK I fixed all the problems I had and got it done!!!! This is the first dress I have ever made!!! (so what that my house may not be clean when my Mother-in-Law comes;)

I will write more about it later. But the long and the short of it is that it looks really cute on Ada. I will try and get photos this weekend and maybe a better description of how I made it.

Friday

Sorry I was missing yesterday. I was working as Wonder Mom yesterday;)

8:00 drop Elijah off at pre-school
8:15 go grocery shopping (2 stores)
9:45 unload groceries and put them away (while giving Ada a snack)
10:15 back to pre-school (Elijah had z as the letter of the week and on Thursdays they bring something with that letter in and my sweet boy wanted to bring me!) (fill in ahhs here;)
10:45 back in car for Ada's 9 month doc appt. (how could she be 9 months already?)

Note I thought that I was really early for the appointment. I thought it was at 11:55, so when I checked in at 11:09 I thought I was just going to sit around and play with Ada a bit. They could not find her in the computer until they looked at the missed appointments, the appointment was at 10:55 (thank God we where so early they could still see us).

The rest of the day was filled with making Ada's dress.

Here would be a great place for a cute photo of her in the dress, only 2 small problems with that idea: 1 she is still sleeping and 2 (but this is the big one) the dress is more a tube then a dress right now. I learned a couple of important things while making this dress. First when making a reversible dress you can not, as far as I can tell, make attach the sleeves at the top or you will not be able to turn the dress inside out, making a nice tube. Second you can not hem the bottom the way I thought that I would or ... well you can not turn it inside out either. I had done both of these things so I had to rip the seams on both one at a time to find out that both where the problem (I only did them both 2 time and then I figured it out;) So now I know what I need to do to fix the problem. I am going to turn them to the right sides and do a cool top stitch on both the hem and the sleeves. Wish me luck.

OK I had to take at least one photo and put it up so that you could see what I mean.

Do not sew the 4 taps at the top together! This is very important to a cute dress, however if you want a cute tube go ahead!

Well that is enough about the dress. It will be done soon, I hope;) My Mother-in-law is coming this weekend and she will help if I do not get it done before then. On to other things:

Here are the photos from this weeks class. This weeks lesson was self portraits. I had tons of fun with this and took lots of photos! I hope you like them.

Photos by Zoe

I am going to go work on the dress, rip the hem for the LAST TIME!!!! while the kids are still asleep, please let them keep sleeping... please please

note as I was looking for spelling errors Elijah got up and is now sitting here "helping" me, oh well I will get it done sometime.

Wonderful day with Friends

We had a great day with our friends. It was 70 out today and we went for a nice walk. I found a new quilt store (you can never have to many quilt stores in your life;), the kids had fun, and I got work done on my craft projects. None of them are done, but I (with LOTS of help from my friend Stephanie) got them all cut out and ready to sew.

I will have to make Ada a skirt because I cut the first pair of shorts for Elijah to small(oops).

This is going to be a double sided dress for Ada. Thank you Stephanie I am soooooo excited to sew them and get them on the kids!

I did take my camera today with me so that I could take lots of cool photos of the kids playing, but I did not take any, sorry. So you will just have to imagine them:)
